It's Our Anniversary !!!!!11!!!

Well, Happy Freakin' Birthday to Us. Cab Drollery is four years old today.

In the beginning, it was just me, puttering around, trying to figure out the basics of the few html commands that are needed on blogspot. Here's my first effort. A bit snide and a bit naive at the same time. In some respects, that part hasn't changed much.

Then Ruth signed on as the better half of this dynamic duo, and things have progressed nicely since then. We're pushing towards 250,000 hits, and if you're reading this, you've contributed to our drive, and for that we thank you.

A friend of mine, not quite a knuckledragger, but certainly no liberal, teased me recently that without George Bush to kick around, we'd have to close the blog down for lack of subject matter. Silly man. There's still plenty of crap being catapulted that needs examining and shooting down for what it is, crap. The players in Washington may have changed, but the game hasn't, nor has the culture which both fosters and feeds off that game.

We don't fool ourselves that the blog in and of itself is going to make a damned bit of difference. Nearly all of our readers are coming from the same political space (or to the left of us), so all we're doing is preaching to the choir, although sometimes the sermon does uncover stuff other folks haven't considered yet. That fits in with the motto of this blog: "A place for a tired old woman to try to figure things out so that the world makes a bit of sense."

This year, however, I am hopeful that we can move some of friends towards more active participation than reading. From time to time, we will be noting issues that require action, like writing/faxing/emailing/phoning the White House and members of Congress. As NTodd likes to point out, voting is only the first step in a participatory democracy. We hope that you will follow up by contacting your government and making your wishes (or demands) known and that you will urge your friends and family to do likewise. It's time we took our country back.

Today, however, have a glass of champagne and then fasten your seatbelt. There be dragons to slay and the Cab is rolling.
